It was a bright sunny day for the 49th Joint Athletics Competition at the Millennium Stadium, Battersea Park. Hosts, Westminster City School welcomed competitors from Emanuel School, Sutton Valence School (both co-ed) and Grey Coat Hospital (all girls) and Queen Anne’s School (all girls) for this annual event. The training and commitment paid off and 4 new records were set in the following events: Intermediate Boys 800m – Emanuel School, Intermediate Girls – Discus Queen Anne’s School, 1500m Emanuel School and 4 x 100m relay Emanuel School. Queen Anne’s School produced the 2 highest scoring female athletes and Westminster City School produced the 2 highest scoring male athletes. Overall, Sutton Valence School won the Godfrey Trophy and Queen Anne’s School won the Millennium Cup.
Prizes were presented by Peter Broughton, the new Head at Westminster City School who congratulated the winning athletes as well as all competitors for their energy and enthusiasm. It was a very successful event. Sutton Valence School were already planning the 50th Anniversary of the competition which would be held on their own athletics track in the rolling Kent countryside.
