On 10th May all five schools took part in the 50th Anniversary Athletics Competition hosted by Sutton Valence School on their splendid all-weather track. The Guest of Honour was Steve Brown, a television presenter (Countryfile and others), public speaker and athlete mentor, as well as being a former member and captain of the Great Britain wheelchair rugby squad. Chairman of Governors, A delicious lunch was laid on by the Head Master, Bruce Grindlay who welcomed parents, Governors and Trustees. The Lady Vallence thanked the athletes for their team spirit and congratulated them on their outstanding performances.
The Godfrey trophy was won by Sutton Valence School and the Millennium Cup by Queen Anne’s School. Five new records were set, two by Queen Anne’s School (Junior Girls’ High Jump and Junior Girls’ 1500m), two by The Grey Coat Hospital (Junior Girls’ 100m and Intermediate Girls’300m) and one by Sutton Valence School for the Intermediate Boys’ 100m.
Next year the event will be hosted by Emanuel School at the Millennium Stadium in Battersea Park.
