The Foundation is very sad to announce the recent death of our former Chair of Trustees, Vice Admiral Peter Dunt, who passed away at his home on 13th October 2020. Peter was, until very recently, the Chair of Trustees of the United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation. His vision and tenacity in brokering the 2019 merger of two separate historical charities into the group we have today means that the Foundation is well placed to deliver outstanding education and public benefit for the pupils and communities across our family of 5 Foundation schools.
In addition to being Chair of Governors for nine years at one of the Foundation’s independent schools (Queen Anne’s School, Caversham), Peter had also previously been Chairman of The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He had an extremely prestigious career in the Royal Navy, and in 2002 became Chief Executive of Defence Estates, the MOD’s property arm, managing an £18bn property portfolio. He retired from the Royal Navy in 2007 and subsequently joined a number of public and private sector boards.
Peter had decided to step down from Chairmanship of the Foundation earlier this year and his successor as Chairman of Trustees is Mr Toby Mullins. Peter will be missed by all at the Foundation and we want to acknowledge the herculean efforts, infectious humour, and wise counsel that he brought to all his activities for the Foundation.
Further details of a Thanksgiving commemorative event for his amazing life will be communicated when current pandemic restrictions allow that to take place.
